Happy 9th Birthday Boston

Dear Bosty Bear,
We love you so much buddy! Year 8 was a big year of challenges and growth.
We learned last October that you have Celiac and not only that, but me, and the girls do too! You thought you gave it to me, since we tested you first, but I informed you that it was me that gave it to you. Sorry about that bud.

We discovered this right around the time that you and I were getting really into baking and watching the great british bake off. We had gotten really into making breads together. Talk about bad timing! However we began learning more about gluten free baking, bought a few cookbooks, and began making homemade gluten free bread that we love!

It was still a hard adjustment for you though, so we went to counseling to get a little help, and after a couple months you felt a WHOLE lot better. It's been a year and we still go to drs. appointments in Spokane once a month. It's a big trip, and not the most fun, but we make the best of it. We've had lots of fun Spokane adventures together!

We've gone to the Arboretum, out to fun restaurants, and we even went to a fun museum and tour of mansions in Browne's addition together. We made up a game in the car when we drive, where we pretend that we're running along side the car, over the hills, under the overpasses, and leaping across powerlines. It's a game I made up when I was a kid on road trips and you and I love it.

We discovered an awesome gluten free restaurant all the way in North Spokane called Coles, and it made you feel so good to have an ENTIRELY gluten free menu to pick from. You also started basketball this last year on a REALLY good AAU team. You were so brave being the new boy, and you played so hard, grew so much, and did really well. It was hard for you to feel behind but you picked things up so quickly and I was proud every day that you continued to show up. One night after practice we were right by the Temple and you were feeling discouraged so we took a walk around the Temple and it made for a really sweet night.

You're now in football and KILLING it! Holy Cow. You're an amazing football player. You've never played before but you picked it up so quick! You had one game of 2 or 3 touchdowns, 11 tackles, and 5 forced fumbles. WHAT?! That's crazy. It's been so fun to watch. Dad even cried on one of your amazing touchdowns. ha!

You still have such a tender heart and it's my favorite thing about you. For example you're the only one in the family not willing to bop Winnie on the face because you can't bring yourself to do it, even if she is biting you. You're also a really kind and good friend.

Everyday I'm proud of you. Every day I love you...so much!

I love you boy,
love,
Mama

Happy 7th Birthday Isaac

Dear Isaac,

Happy 7th Birthday Bubba! We love you so much. This last year has been a joy with you. You've had a lot of learning and growth this year. You started kindergarten right after you turned 6 and you did awesome in kinder! Your teachers were Mrs. Fort and Mrs. Wuennecke and we loved them both!

Your biggest challenge this last year was passing out. I believe you passed out 9 times, and mostly at school! It's been scary for you, but you've been so brave and working through your fears. The school's been awesome to work with.

You recently started counseling for your fear of "B" and it's been working! You're even okay with saying the word blood now. :)

This summer we put you in art classes for 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. You loved it so much! Dad and I loved seeing all of your amazing projects and we marveled at what an amazing artist and painter you are becoming. Nana is so impressed with your talent and she's given you LOTS of sketch books to fill up. You're so cute and you like to take your sketch book to recess with you, so you can draw. :)

At the end of the summer you and your class had an art show and we got to see all of your art pieces on display in a REAL gallery. It was awesome!
We have so much fun with you and your imagination at home. You're still the silliest kid on the block. You always have the whole family laughing.

I love how deeply you love your siblings and your family. If anyone messes with any of us, you've got our backs! Your favorite thing these days is anytime you get time alone with Dad. It's almost a guarantee that the two of you will have a gluten date! Usually consisting of breadsticks. :)

Right after you turned 7 (you've been 7 for a few months now) we bought our puppy Winnie! Dad picked you and Boston up from school, you both walked in the door, and there she was! Sleeping on the floor by the sliding glass door. You were so excited! You've been the best big brother and friend to Winnie. You're the one I can count on to run and play with her when she's needing a little exercise.

Halloween is right around the corner and this year you're going to be a panda. We bought you a GIANT panda mask!

This is our last school year of "hands through the fence" and I know I will forever remember our morning goodbye routine with so much love. :)
Isaac, you'll never know just how deeply Dad and I love you, but I hope you can feel it in our loves, in our hugs, in our conversations with you, and on the rare occasions that you allow it...in our bejios. :)
One favorite thing you said this year: A little while ago you told me that you felt like Winnie was stealing your name, because we sometimes call her, Winnie the Boo. And you said Boo is your name. And you're right. You are and always will be my little boo.

We love you Boo!

Love,
Mama

Happy 4th Birthday Remi

Dear Remington Jane,

Four years babe!  How did that happen?!  Just the other day you cried to me, "I wish I could still be a baby."  You were so distraught.  And I get it.  Your favorite thing in all the world is to snuggle with me or Rowan, or preferably both of us.  And you could do that all day long.  You're such a little lover, still!  Just like you were as a tiny thing.  You love your Mama fiercely and are full of "thank yous", "your welcomes," and "I love you around the world and never come backs."  My favorite is when you ask me to wipe your bum and I say, "coming" and you say, "Your welcome."  in the most polite little voice.  :) As sweet as you are, you're full of an equal portion of spice.  SO MUCH SPICE. If you've been crossed, or feel crossed in anyway you get a little ragey.  You've got a scream that can pierce an ear drum!  This usually stems from your very tender heart.  You've gotten better at explaining, "this makes me feel sad when you do this" which is a hard thing to do.  I'm proud of you.  You love your brothers and they love you.  Your Daddy loves when he gets Remi snuggles, and Rowan is still your bestest bestie.  If only she'd let you play with her neck more!

Highlights from this year:

  • Ashlynn Welly Wisher for Halloween
  • Went to New York for your first time
  • Went the American Girl store and had tea and brunch with Mom and sissy
  • Learned to write your name
  • Know all your letters and sounds
  • Went to Sunbeams for the first time all by yourself! Even though you still wish some days that you could sneak into Rowan's class.
  • First Salon haircut
You love fiercely and infuse our home with overflowing amounts of joy and fun.  We love you Remington Jane, and you will ALWAYS, ALWAYS be Mommy's little girl.  My baby forever.

Mom and Dad love you.

Love, Mama.

Happy 4th Birthday Rowan

Dear Rowan Adele,

It's been a couple months since you had your birthday but life has been busy so I'm JUST now getting to writing you your birthday letter!  Four years of Rowan!  I can't believe it.  The time has flown girl.  We just love you and all that you are!

Highlights from the last year:

  • Wonder Woman for Halloween
  • learned to write your name
  • know all your letters and sounds
  • Went to New York for the first time
  • Went to the American Girl store and had tea and brunch with Mom and sister.
  • Went to Sunbeams for your first time, in a class all by yourself!
  • First Salon haircut and style.
You're so much fun.  The brother's get the biggest kick out of you and think you're so cute. You sure love them.  You and Remi are still the best of friends, even if you do still pull each other's hair every other day. You love sports and can't wait to play basketball and soccer some day. You're an emotional little thing and when you're tired or hungry it's hard to get you to do anything but cry. :) . You love your blankie and your thumb and I often find you in all random spots of the house curled up on the floor with blankie to your nose, and sucking your thumb.

You carry with you a sense of peace.  Often I watch you bring peace to others or to our home.  You lighten the mood, cheer up your loved ones, or problem solve to make others happy.  I love this about you.  You're strong and beautiful and kind.  You love your Mom and Dad and give us lots of huggies and bejios.  I can't wait to watch how much you grow this next year.  What else will you discover, what else will you do?  I can't wait to see it all.

Daddy and I love you so much Rowy girl.  You will ALWAYS be our sweet, snuggly, baby.

Love,
Mama

Happy 8th Birthday Boston

Dear Boston,

Happy 8th Birthday!!  I'm writing this letter to you a little over a month after your birthday.  Whoops!  We've been busy though!  You were baptized a few days after your birthday and it was a really special day.  Your baptism was at noon, but it ran a little late, because of other wards. :)  We started in the Sacrament room and many people came!
Bonkie,
Aunt Jen's entire family
The Stoyans
The Harris'
Sister Fry
Sister Bibe
Tio Brett and his girls
Tio Beau and Tia Brittney
Nana and Papa
Tia Arielle's entire family
Bishop Walker
Sister Rheta Clark
Sister Kleinman and Dallin
Sister Hayes
And probably some others I've forgotten!

Aunt Jen led the music (We sang I am a Child of God), Sister Hayes played the piano, and Isaac said the opening prayer. Bonkie bore her testimony, then we went to the Relief Society room for the baptism.
Dad and I went through the bathroom with you, and Dad went into the font first.  You told me before you stepped in the font that you felt the spirit and happy tears when Bonkie bore her testimony.  You entered the font and Dad baptized you and I got very teary.  It was a very sweet moment and I had a front row view! I wrapped you in a towel and gave you a big hug when you came out.  Then Daddy came out and we had a big group hug.  The font was freezing after a long morning of baptisms!  I left you and Daddy to get changed.  Sister Hayes played piano music, while everyone filled out cards for you saying one thing they want you to remember about today, and at your request, your favorite scripture.  :)  You now have a special catalog of notes from many loved ones.  When you got changed, Bishop Walker confirmed you a member of the church with Dad, Brother Harris, Uncle Kelly, and Uncle Cort in the circle.  You shook everyone's hands and gave Dad a hug.  Then we closed with Isabel singing I will Be What I Believe.  It made me cry, and many others.  Even Charlie and Lucas were crying.  It brought a really sweet spirit.  Isabel sang beautifully, and right before she sang, she found out that she was actually missing her play practice.  Aunt Jen told her that it was probably good that she didn't know, because this is where the Lord wanted her to be, so when she sang, she was really singing you her testimony.  Aunt Jen said the closing prayer.

Bonkie bought you a new suit for your baptism, and Dad and I bought you your own scripture set, with your name engraved on it, and a scripture case that you picked out, complete with compass. :)
For your gifts Isaac bought you 2 survival bracelets (like Liam's), the girls got you $tree presents, Nana and Papa got you a card with a bunch of money and candy, Bonkie got you a magic kit, and Mom and Dad bought you a hoverboard, and soccer ball.  For dinner we had your request of bacon, mashed potatoes, and brown sugar carrots. And for dessert I made you a double topping peach cobbler. :)

This year because Mom and Dad bought you a BIG present we didn't do a party.  Instead we had a small play date with Brogan, Isaac, and Charlie.  They both brought presents for you to school, and I picked you guys up and we headed to the bowling alley.  We ate nachos, drank root beer, played arcade games, and bowled a fun game.  Charlie came in first, you and Isaac tied for second, and Brogan third.  :)

You started 2nd grade this year and are flourishing.  You love your teacher Mrs. Marone, and all the science projects you get to do in her class.  You have a million friends (as always) and are still loving sports.  Right now we're finishing up soccer for the season, just in time to start basketball.  You're amazing at Soccer, by far the best on the team, and have major hustle out there!  I've been proud to see you learning about being a team player, by passing, and displaying sportsmanship when others get hurt.  I enjoy having fun conversations with you, discussing everything from sports, and cooking, to much sillier, stinkier subjects.  You love to cook with Mom and you still look forward to the day we can work out together.  We love to compete.  Seeing who's stronger and faster.  You're already faster than me, but I'm still stronger than you. :)  You have a such a sweet and tender spirit.  You're still the best big brother to all your siblings.  At school you and Zekey get to see each other on Wednesdays at lunch, and you always make sure to say hi and play with him for a minute.  You wrote a story for all your siblings in your free time at school and I can't wait to read it!  You're a math whiz, and complete your math homework in under 5 minutes.  Your favorite books are the Dogman series, and Bonkie says I need to get you the Diary of a whimpy kid books because you'll love them!  You love your Bonkie, and often ask her to tuck you in, and draw on your back at night. :)  We just barely found out you and Remi have Celiac's disease, so that's a big change for you!  You're taking it like a champ though, and you and I are learning how to make British Bake Off worthy breads! This year we've been working on our self talk, reminding ourselves when we look in the mirror that we look great!  We've also been talking about shame vs. guilt and not using shame talk.  I always want you to remember that you're a good boy!

Boss you will never know (until you have an amazing kid of your own) just how much Dad and I love you.  Our love for you is endless and boundless.  No matter WHAT we will always love you, bigger than the Universe!  I'm proud of you every day.  I love who you are.  I can't wait to watch who you become.

Love,
Mama

PS Your career choice for the last couple years is to be a dentist.  :)  Pretty cute.

Happy 6th Birthday Isaac Dane

Dear Isaac,

2017/2018 has been a big year for you.  Right after your 5th birthday you started PRE-K at home with Mom!  We had 3 other boys join us, Lucas, Zac, and Henry.  Zac became your new best friend!  Mom turned her craft room into the preschool room, just for you! We had lots of fun learning, 3 days a week in that room all together. At Christmas you received your favorite stuffed animal, Penthea the Panda.  She's a Furreal Friend that you LOVED.  You still love her, but you have many stuffed animals to spread your love out to, so sometimes she takes a back seat.

We tried Soccer in the Fall for you, but you didn't love it.  We're proud of you for sticking in there with it, and when you did try, you were great!  We also tried Hip hop this year, but decided we need another year or so, before you will enjoy structured sports and classes. :)

We had a REALLY big summer of travel.  I took all of you kids to see Great Grandma Chapman in Utah.  We stayed at her house and had a great time drinking chocolate milk every morning, playing with cousins, and spending time with Great Grandma and Bonkie.  A couple weeks later we left on an even bigger trip to NEW YORK CITY!  It was a fun and crazy trip with our whole family.  You got to ride on an airplane for the first time since you were a baby.  The Flight Attendants let you and Boston speak over the intercom.  You said,
"My name is Isaac, I'm 5 years old, this is my first time on a plane, and I'm going to a Yankees game".
We had the best time with Aunt Kaz's and Uncle Erik's families.  We stayed in Connecticut most the time and you had the best time running around with Dean and Macee in the party barn!  We did an overnight trip to Boston, where we walked the Freedom trail, stayed in a fun hotel, and went to LEGO Land.  With all of our cousins we spent a couple days in New York City.  We climbed the statue of Liberty, went to the 911 memorial, played baseball in Central park and climbed boulders.  We went to Bryant park, and our favorite was going to the MOMA.  We got see Van Gogh's Starry Night and Monet's Water Lillies!  It was awesome.  After Connecticut, our little family spent 3 days in NYC by ourselves.  We stayed in a fancy hotel on the Upper West side, and played in Central Park, met a Dog named Moose that we all fell in love with.  We dodged a rain storm, by stepping into a cookie shop and ordering delicious cookies until the rain stopped.  We Also got to explore the MET where we saw Mummies and Van Gogh's Self portrait, and the Museum of Natural History, where we saw a HUGE whale, and big Dinosaurs.  We played for a while on the museum lawn, and we also found a fun city park to play at.  We all agreed we can't wait to go back!

It wasn't long after we got home that you had your birthday!  For your party you invited a ton of friends to Garland's gymnastics where you got to do the birthday bungee.  You pretended to be Iron man on the bungee and we all laughed.  This year you've become a great friend and really care about making more friends. You still love art and drawing, as well as Legos, snap circuits, and stuffed animals.  And you're still the funniest kid around.  You are constantly cracking us up. We love all the snuggles we get from you as well.
I even tried to convince you this year that we should do snuggle school instead of Kindergarten.  I told you we could start with diaper class, then baby toys class, then Snuggle school, and then we would end with shrinking class (which would be the longest class of the day).  You did NOT like that idea.  :)

Just last week you started Kindergarten!  You have Mrs. Fort and Mrs. Wueneeke.  Mom loves these teachers so I've been really excited for you.  They think you are so smart and a leader!  I was happy and a little nervous for your first day of Kinder.  I knew I would feel happy if your day went well.  Right when I dropped you on the playground you gathered up a big group of boys that you know and got a game of tag going.  Everyone wanted to play with you and it was fun to see you be such a leader.  I was so happy to see you making lots of friends right away.  You even invited a little boy that had no one to play with, to come play with all of you.  Mrs. Fort said you did awesome on your first day, and felt so happy!  We missed having you at home though, and I gave you LOTS and LOTS of snuggles as soon as you got home.

This year, is my year of Isaac.  Because it's the year you start all day Kindergarten, you have an extra tender spot in my heart.  I miss you and your sweet, creative energy here at home.  Every day Daddy and I are so grateful that Heavenly Father gave us the sweetest, funniest, brightest, funniest, Zekeyboo!

Happy Birthday sweet boy!  This year you're going to do great things!

Love,
Mama.

Happy 3rd Birthday Rowan Adele

Dear Rowy Bowie,

Happy birthday Darling!  Your Mama just loves you so much.  I can't believe you're 3!  You and sissy have grown up way too fast.  I've loved watching you change and grow over the years.  You started out my little easy going, tender girl, always mothering over Remi.  But for at least the last year you've developed a STRONG sense of independence, and have no time to Mother over anyone. :)  If anything, you enjoy playing the roll of baby, and are more than willing to let Remi, mother over you.  You're a brave little thing and always ready to make a new friend, or dive head first into new situations.  Your favorite shows are Sofia the First and Frozen.  You have declared yourself as Amber and Anna.  On Halloween you made the most darling Anna.  Remi, Isaac, Boss, Stella, Pippa, and Abby are your best friends.
Your brothers love you fiercely, and when you're sad you often ask for Boston to hold and comfort you.
Your favorite comfort items are your blankie, and thumb.  Sometimes you like to add in your pink bear.  :)

Daddy and I love chatting with you, and we just laugh over your very expressive way of explaining things.  Lots of head tilts, hand gestures, and voice inflections.   You love a good snuggle, and when I take the time to slow down, you eat up getting to feel like a baby again with Mommy carrying and kissing you.  I love watching the sweet, kind sister you are, and I love seeing you be such a good friend.  You have the same husky laugh you've had since you were a baby. :)

The other day I wiped your bum and you said, "That was so kind".  :)  When Daddy wiped your bum you told him, "You're welcome". haha.  Always so polite.  You have a healthy dose of drama in you, but in the best way.  You love to get dramatic and excited about what you're playing.  You know all of your zoo phonics and their sounds, you count to at least 10 and you love when I read Heidi to you girls at night.  Daddy has to work a little harder to get Rowy loves, but when he can get them from you he eats them up.  Mommy gets Rowy loves any time she wants. :)  You give me tight squeezes around my neck, lots of Beijos, and you always tell me I'm beautiful.

We love you so much and are LOVING watching you grow!

Love,
Mama

Happy 3rd Birthday Remington Jane

Dear little Remi,

Happy Birthday baby girl! I think it's official.  You're a big girl now.  I still call you my baby, but it sounds a little sillier every day.  You're such a joy in our lives.  You still love to snuggle up Mom while sucking your thumb, and playing with my hair.  I love that you've had this habit since you were a tiny baby.  Rowan is still your bestest friend, unless of course you and her have declared that you're not friends and then pull each other's hair.  Every day you get more independent.  You and sissy have started to play in other rooms of the house (not just the room I'm in) and the two of you make up all kinds of games.  You play house, and sliding down the stairs, and jumping on the couches, and babies, and Christmas morning, and all kinds of pretend play.
Your favorite comfort items are still your blankie, thumb, and my hair.
Your favorite friends are Rowy, the boys, Stella, Pippa, and Abby.
Your favorite babysitters are Squish and Dita, but you also love Savannah and Carly.
You still have the loudest voice when your mad, but the tiniest voice when speaking.
Your favorite shows are Sofia the First and Frozen, with the occassional Boss baby and little Baby Bums.

You're always Sofia and Elsa, and we all have to ask your permission when singing, Let it Go.
Isaac is one of your favorite playmates and he makes up all kinds of games for you and Rowan to join in.  His favorite to play with you girls is, "Family".  He loves you girls fiercely and is a great brother.  Boston still loves his "babies" and you girls can't wait to see him when he gets out of school each day.

You always have us laughing.  The other day you and the kids were playing hide n seek, and no one could find Rowan. You immediately went into mourning and said, "I loved her.  She was my best friend.  She laughed like this, "hehe".  We all DIED laughing.  Now it's a running family joke that you and Rowan both love. :)

You're definitely a bit of a Daddy's girl and he gobbles up his Remi snuggles.  He loves when he can get some morning snuggles from you.  For the last few weeks we've gotten rid of night time diapers and you don't wet your bed! I'm so proud...and relieved to be done with diapers!  You are a full participant in preschool and you know all of your zoo phonics and their sounds.  You can count to at least 10 and you know how to use scissors and hold a pen correctly.  I love watching you play and having conversations with you and your ever expanding vocabulary.  When you're feeling extra happy you usually tell Mommy how beautiful she is.... or Rowy.  You can't help it.  When you're full of joy you just want to compliment!  I love this about you.

I love your jumping, running, wild, sweet, sensitive, and tender spirit.

WE LOVE YOU BIG REMINGTON JANE.

Love,
Mama

7 years of Boston

Dear Boston,

Your birthday was almost a month ago, and I realized I never wrote you your letter!  And I have so much to write about you!  Oh Boston,  I could not love you more kid.  5 and 6 were two of my VERY favorite years with you!  I can't WAIT To see what year 7 brings.  You're one of my favorite people to laugh and talk with.  Still, you're the best big brother in the world.  Always caring about your siblings safety and happiness.  If anyone messes with Isaac?  They better WATCH out.  You are all over that.  A kid at a park bumped Isaac with the swings and I had to hold you and Isaac, because you were both crying.  You don't like to see your siblings sad or hurt.  You did AMAZING in Kindergarten this last year.  You showed what a leader you are, and made tons and tons of friends.  You were the first in your class to make it to the Hall of Fame!  Meaning you were on perfect behavior for 5 days!  That's quite the accomplishment!  Soccer and baseball were really fun for you this year.  We were BUSY busy.  You got to play in Daddy's baseball league, on the same fields, with some of the same coaches that Dad had!

You've become an excellent reader and every night we read books together.  I read a page.  You read a page.  We still love to cook, jump, and play catch together.  Dad is still your favorite person on the planet, but me and the rest of the family come in a close second. :)  We get a kick out of the girls (whom we still refer to as babies!)  Football has become your favorite sport these days.  You play almost every morning at school drop off.  You're now in first grade and doing amazing!  We discovered this year just how powerful your mind is.  You were starting to feel down about the school days feeling long, and you were crying when you had to go to school, so we talked about how our thoughts make literal grooves in our brains, and it makes it easier to go down certain thought paths the more we have them.  So we started saying we need to build a new racetrack.  So instead of sending your car down the, "school is so long, I hate school" race track, we started building a new one by telling ourselves sentences like, "I enjoy school.  at school I get to see my friends.  I always get to see my mom at the end of the day".  I tricked you into building your new racetrack by telling you a story about you and Isaac switching lives for a day, and as I told the story I would ask you about what Isaac would do at school, what would his favorite parts of the day be etc..." then half way through the story you said, "Hey!  You're tricking me!  You put new grooves in my brain!"  I said I didn't know what you were talking about, but you said, "Well, it's working!"  You asked me if I would keep tricking you every night, and I said that I would continue to help you build that race track until you could do it on your own.  And ever since that night, you have done GREAT and not had one hard day at school!  You even say many of your days feel short! That's amazing Boston!  Your mind is so powerful.  It was a good example to me of how powerful our minds are.  Your self discipline and determination astound me.

Your best friends these days are Brogan, Charlie, and Dallin.  :)  You love playing with our neighbor Braxton too.  Your birthday party was fun and crazy this year!  We celebrated at the Gym with 17 friends!  All boys!  We ate pizza and popcorn, had ice cream, opened presents, played flag football, and played on a blowup obstacle course.  It was the loudest mini frat party I've ever been to. ;)  At one point the boys were all shouting, "CHUG CHUG CHUG!" as one kid guzzled his water bottle.  Every other night (on my tuck in turns) I sing you your songs "To make you feel my love", "I will love you" and "Fix you".  You still love those songs...and your cous cous. :)  We love you so much Boston.  We love your smile and your laugh.  We love all of your fun conversations, and deep questions.  I love talking about happy things, and all the hard things too.  You're one of my favorite people, and ALWAYS ALWAYS will be.  It's been pure joy watching you grow up into this cool, friendly, good, kind, awesome kid.

Happy birthday Boston!!!

Love,
Mama

Happy 5th Birthday Isaac

Dear Zekeyboo,

I really can't believe I'm writing your 5th Birthday letter.  I still see you as my little guy, but you're becoming a big boy!  I see it more every day.  You have the biggest imagination and are constantly lost in that awesome mind of yours.  You're a creative soul, constantly coloring, drawing, or playing pretend.  Hulk Smash and Kylo ren are two of your favorites to dress up as.  Every morning you like to tell me about your dreams from the night before in great detail. Reading books is still a favorite past time.  This year I've started letting you boys color on your walls and I have LOVED seeing what comes out of your imagination.  You drew a Pirate that you named whiskers, and the coolest water gun. When it comes to fashion, you have a definite preference and style.  On your birthday you had very specific ideas about looking like a rock star, and wearing jeans, a rock t shirt, and a leather jacket.  I made sure you felt and looked like a rock star on your big day.

As a brother you are kind and caring.  You would do anything for your sisters and I love seeing you shine in your big brother role.  About a month ago you learned to ride your bike without training wheels, so for your birthday we got you a new big boy bike and you've taken off!  You're so good on your bike.  You picked it up so fast.  Right now you are wearing striped pj bottoms, and a plaid, Christmas, button up shirt.  You're playing a game with Boston and the girls, where you boys wrap the girls in blankets, and pull them across the floor. ha!

Last year for Preschool I did a co op with other Moms, but this year, I am teaching you and 3 other little boys here at our house.  I rearranged the craft room to become the preschool room, and when you walked in to see the transformation you said,

Mom!  Did you do all this for me??
I said of course I did and that I wanted you to have the best Pre-K year ever, and then you gave me a giant hug and said,

 I wouldn't want a different Mom!
Which is a phrase typically reserved for Dad. :)  You have a tender heart, and under the right circumstances eat up snuggles and loves from me, and under any circumstance will eat up loves from Dad.  Every day you make all of us laugh, and Dad and I LOVE hearing the funny thoughts and jokes you come up with.  This year, the over all feeling that I have about you is this,

You're capable of accomplishing whatever you want.  I see you doing really well in school when the time comes, and making friends, exploring your imagination, and developing your talents even more.
I can't wait to see what we learn about you this year Zeke!

I wouldn't want a different Zekey,
Love, Mama.

Letter To Remi and Rowan: Potty training

Dear girls,

I'm sorry I'm writing a joint letter.  I usually try to write all my kids separate, but this is an experience the three of us share, so a joint letter it is.  :)  We started potty training a couple weeks ago and you have both done amazing!  We've had some accidents here and there but I've been so grateful how quickly and confidently you both picked it up!

Rowan you like to do everything on your own, no help from Mom.  But you do like me to be right there near, talking to you, cheering you on, or having one of your baby dolls cheer you on. :)
Remi you like Mommy to stay right close, hugging you, or holding your little hips, and we talk and chat about what a big girl you are, or maybe you stroke my hair and tell me that you love me.

I meant to write this letter a few days ago, but time got away from me, and then today we had a scary experience with Rowy, and my heart is a little tender, so I decided to write this letter.
I just wanted you girls to know that yes, the work of a Mom is often difficult, unpleasant, and discouraging, but some of my sweetest moments with you children, some of our most bonding times are in the thick of it all.  Potty training is high on my list of things I DO NOT like doing as a Mom, but over the last few weeks, the 3 of us have literally spent hours together, looking each other in the eyes, talking and chatting, and getting special one on one time that is rarer than I would like.  It's been precious and sweet and it's imprinted on my heart.

Remi when you were little little and got RSV, it was the WORST.  I hated you being so sick.  I was stressed with twin babies, and a toddler and a 4 year old, but for 3 days straight I carried you on my chest, you slept and napped on my chest, and even though I wasn't on much sleep, I loved having a reason to make holding you my top priority over all else.
Rowan, you waited patiently for a week, until Remi got better, before you caught RSV too, and then I had a reason to make you my top priority, and cuddle and hold you close for days.  I can still remember my tender feelings toward you both during those sick weeks and I hold that feeling close.

Rowan, we had a very scary moment with you in the pool today.  You jumped in without your floaty, I didn't see you jump in and Haley pulled you out of the water, coughing and throwing up.  It was really scary, and I feel VERY tender toward you at the moment.  You continued to throw up, so I drove you to the ER, and as I was driving, crying and praying that Heavenly Father would protect you, I remembered the last time I had taken this same drive, 2 1/2 years ago to the same ER, when  I couldn't feel you move in my tummy for a day.  I was terrified that you had passed away, and I begged Heavenly Father to keep you safe.  You were thankfully fine, and just chilling out, but I do not forget the fear and love and desperation I felt for you.

Experiences that remind us just how much we love our children, are usually not fun, often fear filled, and we typically do not want to experience them again, but I do hold on to the memory of how tender my heart felt in those moments, and I'm reminded that I love you kids and your Dad more than anything in the whole world.  Even when we're potty training, even when you throw food all over the floor, even when you're being a stinker, I love being your Mom.

Girls, I am so so grateful we belong to each other.

I love you,
Mama.

Letter to Isaac

1/10/17

Dear Isaac,

I'm lying in bed, with you, sandwiched between me and your brother.  Daddy's out of town and I've always pulled Boston into bed with me when he leaves, but the last few trips I've pulled you in too.  You're getting older bud.  More privileges, more responsibilities, more siblings, more everything.  There are only 4 of you so technically we don't have a middle child. But, because your youngest siblings are twins I feel like you're our middle.  Boston's the oldest, the twins are the youngest.

And as my middle child, tonight, I just felt the strong urge to let you know that you matter.  I see you.  I love you.  I notice you.  I respect every little thing that makes you you.  I hope you never feel lost in the shuffle.  I hope you always know how important you are to the very foundation of our family.  Without an Isaac our family wouldn't be nearly as fun, and silly, and thoughtful.  Your brother would be missing his best friend.  Your sisters would miss you teaching them everything you know. Your Dad would miss the love and hugs you pour out on him (you fill his cup with so much love) And I would miss all of the beautifully colored pictures, completed puzzles strewn about the house, and imaginative conversations we have together.

At this very young age what I see in you is,
tenderness.
kindness.
curiousity
IMAGINATION.
patience.  So much patience.
Humor.
Strength.
Independence.
Charm.
loyalty.
A forgiving heart.
A caring friend.
An engineering mind.

At only 4 years old, there are so many more layers of Zekey to unravel and get to know and I can't wait for all of it.

I just wanted you to know it's a pure joy raising you.  I love you beyond.

Love,
Momma

Letter to Rowan

Dear Rowy,

Happy birthday darling girl!  You're two!!!  And you know it!  You are filling in those britches a little more every day.  Mama threw you a tea party that we invited Stella, Abby, and Pippa to, and you and Rmei were quite the little ladies. I wanted you to understand last night that your birthday was today, so I told you that I'd be giving you balloons.  You knew to be excited about that and the rest of the afternoon and morning you behaved like a lady.  While I put braids in your hair you sat perfectly still and when I pulled out your new Freshly Picked moccasins , you promptly sat on your bum to put them on.  You and sister wished eachother multiple happy birthdays and showed off your pretty hair.

Things I don't want  to forget about you at two:
You have developed a very spicey side.  Full of stubborn, independent goodness.
You love to climb on the counters and the dresser in your bedroom, and somehow you convince sister to join you.
You have a deep belly laugh I can't get enough of.
You love your brothers and will often ask Boston to comfort you.
You're a Mama's girl.
You love your blankie.
When Daddy comes home you shout, "Dada!!!"
You and sister can't say Remi so you both call each other Rowy.  But you do answer to the correct names.
I love hearing you say,
"dop it!" (stop it)
"ok Mama"
"Gank ooo babies" (Thank you baby).
"BACK" (be right back)

I love you and your extra silly little nature so much. You're beautiful and smart and just delightful  tlittle Row!  We love you so so much!

Love,
Mama

Letter To Remington

Dear Remi,

Happy Birthday baby doll!!!  You're two!  How did this happen?  You've grown so so fast.  You definitely keep me on my toes!  We had a really fun day today.  The brothers and Bonkie got you out of bed and we lit candles on your breakfast muffin.  Then we had a tea party with your 3 dear friends, Pippa, Stella, and Abby.  It was quite an elegant affair for a group of 2 and 3 year old girls.

Things I want to remember about you:
You give the sweetest loves to me and Daddy.  Daddy GOBBLES them up.
You're a Mama's girl.
You love Rowan and will put her first if she's sad.  You won't go to bed without her, or stay up if she's in bed.  You MUST be together. You also won't accept a treat without one for Rowan too. :)
You're talking lots with new words and sentences every day.  Right now we love hearing,
"I don't yike it" (I don't like it)
"I wuv you Mama"
"Mama.  Weed."  (Mama. Read.)
"Bosty"
"I SACK" (Isaac)
You switch with Rowan, but lately you have been the little mother of you two.

Reading at night together from Anne Of Green Gables, Little Princess, and Little Women
Sucking your thumb.
I love your smile when you're feeling pretty.
I love your strut when you're feeling big.
I love your growl when you're feeling angry or silly or ferocious.
I love the way you give me Beijos and grab my face tight and look back at me, then dive in for big kisses and huggies.

I love you so much.  You're beautiful and funny and smart and kind and our whole family could not love you more!

Happy Birthday baby girl!

Love,
Mama

Letter To Boston: 6 years!

Dear Bosty,

I don't call you Bosty much anymore, but something about opening up this oldie but a goodie blog, and writing you a letter, makes me feel like this letter should be written to my Bosty. :)

5 was a great year for you.  You grew so much.  We shared our last year of preschool together with Isaac and Charlie too.  We had so much fun in preschool.  I will always treasure those memories with you.  You started kindergarten about 3 weeks ago!  It's had some big ups and some downs. There's a color system in your class, and you get to be on a certain color based on your behavior, so you can travel from the very bottom, red, to the very top, pink based on your choices.  We had the nicest talk in your rocking chair tonight and part of it was about this color system.  You like the colors.  You like the challenge and knowing where you're at and trying to reach big color goals.

Tonight I told you that you are not your color and I asked if you knew that.  You said you did, and that if you're on red, you're not a red boy, etc... I asked if you knew what color you are no matter what.  And you smiled and I said, "Pink!"  (That's the highest color you can reach).  I told you that no matter what you are a pink boy.  We are all pink people!  We came here with an unchangeable worth because we are children of Heavenly Father and that makes us Kings and Queens.  I said that we can choose to match our choices to who we are, but we are always pink, even when making a red choice.  Then we talked about my day and I said I thought I probably had a yellow Mom day (yellow is a stop and think about it color) and you said you think I had a red day (that's go to the Principles office).  haha!  I told you I'm gonna aim for a good solid purple tomorrow (the color just below pink.  Let's not set myself up for failure!) and you said you were gonna aim for pink.

We talked and talked about school, and your feelings, and your friends, and your thoughts and my thoughts, and it was honestly one of the nicest conversations I've had with anyone in a long time.  I just love the person that you are.  I love being apart of your life.  I love sharing all of these firsts with you.  This whole 6 year old in school business has pulled at my heart strings in a big way.  I feel everything for you in the biggest ways.  I miss you big.  I feel sad for you big.  I'm proud of you big. I love you big!  So big.   You're awesome Boston.  I'm so glad you're mine.

Love,
Momma.

Letter to Isaac: 4 Years of Isaac

Dear Isaac,

You just turned 4 years old!  4 years with you in our lives?!  It's been a happy, silly, wild, fun, cuddly 4 years.  :)  You insisted this year that you didn't want a friend party, but every now and then you would change your mind.  I asked you what your worry was about a friend party and you explained,
Everyone's going to eat my cake, and my candy, and play with my presents!
Ha! I decided that you still might really enjoy a friend party, so I threw you one anyway and we did a family party on Sunday with just Nana and Papa (At your request).  Your party was a blast and you were excited about it all day.  We picked you out 3 special balloons. Seahawk shirt, Star Wars, and Minions.  You came downstairs to a decorated house, your special red cup and bowl and a box of Finding Dory cereal (that you had picked out) on the table.  We gobbled up breakfast and then I headed to Island park where I decorated the pavilion and buried dinosaurs for the big Dino Dig!
You had a VERY happy party with a dinosaur dig, and rootbeer floats and fun dinosaur presents.  I made you your own special cake (so you wouldn't have to share) and all of your friends ate Dino Dirt Cups (chocolate pudding and oreos).  So we avoided all of your worries.  You didn't have to share your cake, there was no candy so no one ate any, and we didn't take your toys out of the box at the park, so you didn't even have to share!  What are birthdays for if not for making dreams come true. :)
You had a great day and on Sunday we formed a giant cuddle pit on two couches with daddy and ate popcorn and watched your movie of choice, Goosebumps.  For dinner you requested hot dogs so we had just that and for dessert we ate a sour cream, lemon pie that you picked out.  :)  I think you had a really happy day and a very happy party.

Mom and Dad got you a robot dinosaur
The girls got you a dinosaur spike helmet
Boston got you an avenger dart gun.

You've thoroughly enjoyed all of your presents. :)

If I had to describe you in one word, I think I'd say, individual.  You march to the beat of your own drum and I love this about you.  You always have a plan and are very focused on whatever it is you're doing.  You love playing sports and pretend in the back yard, but you also love legos, puzzles and action figures.  Your favorite pastime by far is still reading books.  You love your friends and get excited to go play, but you also like having time to play by yourself.  You love making people laugh and you're really good at it.  My friends and I are constantly cracking up at your goofy, witty, silly personality.  You LOVE to learn and are very curious...about EVERYTHING.  Hence your love of reading.  You're tender hearted and very very sweet with your sisters.  Constantly looking out for their safety and making sure they don't get hurt, or break any rules.  I could listen to you talk all day long.  I love the way you speak and the funny thoughts that pass through your brilliant little mind.

Dad has SUCH a soft spot for you.  He is always looking out for his Zekey boy.  We both love our cuddles from you.  Lately you've been asking Mom to tell you a story at bedtime, or you've been saying you want me to tuck you in and it melts my heart.  This year we've started swim lessons and workouts at the gym with mom (while we wait for Boston's swim lessons to be over).  It's been so fun.  We also will start our first Co op preschool in 1 month!  You're very excited to do preschool with friends and so am I!  I can't wait to watch you grow another year older, taller, smarter, sillier, and sweeter.  We love you soooooooooooo much Isaac!  Our lives would be so dull without you in it!

Love,

Momma

Letter to Boston

Dear Bosty,

Hey Bud.  I love you so much.  You're 5 years old and my biggest helper.  You played soccer this year and loved it.  You were good too!  You were by far the fastest and you loved it.  I really enjoyed watching you play.  I loved at the end of the season how you learned to pass and be a great team player.  for the last 2 years I've taught you preschool and in a couple weeks it's all over!  Boss!  What am I gonna do without you?  You'll be in full day kindergarten in a few months. We just had your orientation and you were very nervous, but excited.  I watched you shake the teachers hands like a big boy and It hit me how old you are getting.  How are you not a toddler anymore?  This is nuts.

When we sat down at orientation, there was a long presentation and you leaned over and said, "This is gonna be hard to be good".  I assured you that kindergarten would not be like this Adult centered presentation. :)  You're one of a kind Boss.  When it rains, you point out it's precipitating, you love cars and sports and anything that will make you move fast, but you'll always slow down to hold, kiss, or care for a sister.  I don't even have to ask you to look out for the sisters, you just do it all on your own.

I'm gonna miss seeing your cute face all day next year.  We'll be lost without you.  But I'll get through knowing how much fun you're having.

I love you Boston.  So much.

Love, Momma.

Letter to Isaac

Hey Dude,

You are 3 years old and sometime I feel like you're about 12.  There's no chub left on you!  You're just all big boy now, with your cute Zekey voice and buzzed hair and long legs.  Somehow you've never stopped being my baby.  Maybe it's because you hold that position dear, or maybe it's because you're my baby boy, but you and I still eat up our cuddle time together and you looove to be babied.  You're also becoming such a big boy by being a bigger helper around the house, helping with the sisters, and being so very gentle and sweet with them.

Dad and I love this stage with you.  It might be your cutest yet.  You say the funniest things and we LOVE getting glimpses into your little mind.  I love your confidence.  The other day we walked into a building and you introduced our entire group to the first man we met. And I don't know if I would call this a skill but you're a great little liar.  You have no qualms about it.   I also love that you know your needs and take time for yourself, to play at your own pace, making up your own rules.  The quickest way to your heart is still asking you to cuddle up and read a book together.

You're a charmer Zeke.  People kinda fall head over heals for ya, there's just something about you. :)

We love you so much Zekeybooo!

Love,  Momma

PS:  Just now you walked up to me and I told you I was writing this letter.  You just said,

"Does it say, naughty Isaac spilt all the noodles?"  and I said, "No.  Did you spill all the noodles?"
You said, yes.  Hmm....

Letter to Remington

Dear, sweet Remi,

You are 16 months baby girl and you just get cuter, with crazier hair every day.  I have a little joke that you and your sister often look like two disheveled little librarians because your hair is WILD and you're always walking around with a book in hand.  You're so much fun Remi.  I love the way you walk right into new situations and start having fun.  Your belly laugh is still my favorite, but more recently i've noticed this subtle, soft smile that just melts my heart.  I love how you sometimes walk sideways  to make sure you clear doorways that could fit about 8 Remi's,  I'm still your #1 girl, so I get your best hugs, loves and excitement.  You still are nice and loud about telling me your needs, but I've also seen a very patient side to you.  When Rowan takes a toy, or somethings not quite working out, you adapt and move on.  Your brothers are your favorites and you get very excited to see them in the mornings.  Daddy and I are still trying to remember how different boys and girls are and we work really hard not to hurt your sweet little feelings.  :)

We just adore you Rem.  You're just a squishy, sweet little love.  Never change.

Love,  Momma

Letter To Rowan

Dearest little Rowy,

It's been awhile since I've written letters to my darling 4, so I'm starting with you, my youngest.
You're 16 months right now!  A busy little girl with a plan.  You're always tromping around the house with your little belly sticking out, trying to see who might have the next toy you want to play with.  You love your siblings and give them kisses, and loves.  Especially Remi.  You're always looking out for her and if she's sad, you bring her a binky.  You might take the binky right back, but it's the thought that counts. :)  I love how you say, "MAMY" and stick the palm of your hand out for me to kiss it.  I've noticed a little spice in you as you whip your little head around when you have a plan, or steal Remi's toys, or learn to make your needs known too.

One of my favorite things I've learned about you recently is how much you love music.  The music comes on and MAN girl, You. Are. Bopping.  You get those little legs pumping and you look at the ground and shake your hair while you spin in circles.  If music is on, you are dancing.  And you're very concentrated on your moves. Some of your dance moves have been inspired by watching me do yoga (like downward dog).  You're just the cutest.

I love you Row.  I love your snuggles and your sweet beijos and your little belly and happy smile.

You're just growing up beautifully.

Love,  Momma
